Durham West Arts Centre is proud to announce its first Durham West Studio Tour.

The studio tour is being held on the first weekend of October to capture some of Durham’s finest artists and the incredible fall colours that also await you in the region. Come watch demonstrations and interact with local, regional and international artists.

The Durham West Studio Tour is located in picturesque Claremont, Brougham, Greenwood, Pickering, Ajax and various other locales throughout Durham West.

You will see a wide range of art work including sculptures, paintings, photography, pottery and mixed media.

Durham Region seems to grow artists – so come and engage with these community members who are working in our midst, interpreting and creating amongst us.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

We’re bringing art to the public by showcasing artwork throughout the community outside of the traditional gallery setting. Durham West Arts Centre is embracing this modern idea not only in the community but in cyberspace. To that end, a cyber gallery will be part of our new website design coming soon.

I am amazed by the array of the talent in Durham West and beyond. In fact, it is world-class. From sculptors to painters to artisans to musicians and performing artists, Durham has a highly-creative core.

Thank you for the warm welcome I’ve received from my colleagues, local artists and community members. The first month has been challenging and inspiring.

What seems to be coming across is an overriding energy and interest from artists and residents in embracing a broader vision for the arts community in Durham West. There is continued support for the creation of a dynamic arts centre where these talented people can congregate, interact and share with the community.

We are excited to be a part of this undertaking. To that end we are working on multiple arts projects to bring artists and the public together, as well as partnering with various other art organizations. We are also launching Durham West Art Centre’s first studio tour on October 3 and 4, showcasing the works of more than 20 local, regional and international artists.
