Global Art Project - Peace Quilt by Fairport Beach Public School
at DWAC ONLY until Thursday, April 20, 2006

April 2006
The Global Art Project is an international biennial art exchange that strives to promote global peace and harmony. This is our first time participating in this exciting program. We have been working for six months on our quilt, and have just received news that our exchange partner is a 5th form class of eleven-year-olds in Morocco. During the last week in April, thousands of art pieces carrying messages of peace and love will travel around the globe!
Our whole group spent much time brainstorming for the various ideas now stitched into our quilt. In the centre is a tree (the tree of life) filled with objects that represent our group’s ideas of peace, for example hearts, doves, dream catchers, music notes, poppies and peace signs. Surrounding the tree is a border containing a vine, along which are embroidered names of all members of our project team. Below the tree are flowers and butterflies. And finally, within the outer border are international code flags, with Canadian flags in the corners, International Maritime Code flags that represent a letter of the alphabet and we have used them to spell out the words “Peace”, “Harmony”, “Respect” and “Compassion”.
