47% of visual artists sell works outside Durham, 51% exhibit non-locally. As artists leave Durham to exhibit and sell, their spending leaks out with them.
Although you cannot put a definitive number on the arts leakage dollars, it is safe to estimate that $10 million annually leaks out of Durham because there are not adequate arts facilties/services available.
