The EnviroMonsters are back!

The monster is US!

We are the Grade 9, 11 and 12 Arts and Crafts students of Pine Ridge Secondary School. We spent three days collecting garbage to incorporate into this EnviroMonster sculpture from our own school property. The rest of the garbage that wasn't used for our monster was disposed of or recycled at school. All of our students worked on the concept drawings for this assemblage sculpture. This year our winning student work was designed by Paulton Allen. His drawings were used as a starting point for our final sculptural creation!

Impact: When we tried to search for enviromemtal garbage on the fourth day, we noticed that we were having a harder time finding garbage to collect.

We hope that we have had a positive influence on our fellow Pine Ridge students and in our local community!

celebrate April 22, Earth Day in Pickering.

DETAILS:

• The ‘monster’ must be as pre-assembled as possible. The school is responsible for bringing it to the Pickering Town Centre and having is assembled in the Centre Court by 9:30 a.m. on Thurs. April 20, 2006. The sculpture must be removed after 6 p.m. Sunday April 23 or before 9:30 a.m. Monday April 24, 2006. There is a chance that the sculpture may be transported by TRCA for further display.

RULES:

• Materials must come from the stream clean ups or from the wastes of your school.
• You may arrange to power wash your stream clean up materials through TRCA but you may not paint or enhance these materials in other ways.
• For safety reasons, you must ensure that your sculpture does not pose a tipping risk or have sharp objects that might hurt members of the public.
• You may weld, glue or hammer materials as part of pre-assembly, but, you may not do any of these things at the PTC, including the use of a glue gun.
• Your school is responsible for supervising the sculptures in the PTC during the school day.
• You will be assigned the hours in a schedule.
• Your supervisory hours provide a great way to promote your school.
• You may supervise the sculptures outside of school time for community volunteer hours.
• These would be signed for by DWAC personnel who will be present during hours of display.
