Mystery Masterpiece!
Friday, April 21, 2006
Durham West Arts Centre Mystery Masterpiece a huge success
Participating artists, guests and sponsors were all equally pleased with DWAC's first fundraiser which made a profit of nearly $7,000. The Doric Hall was thronging with elegant guests who complimented the art by purchasing almost all 44 works. The donation of tickets by Ontario Power Generation, Pickering Nuclear and Ron Halliday of Deer Creek supported the presence of young people, seniors and artists. "It was great to see the diversity of age and culture represented," said DWAC Chair John Sabean. "DWAC's aim is to serve all segments of the community." DWAC thanks the artists who donated their works for the cause of an arts centre for west Durham. We also thank Mayor Ryan for the most hotly contested item of the night-lunch with the Mayor! Our thanks to ALL the generous supporters of what we hope will become an annual event
Mystery Masterpieces Show Range of Community Support
The Mystery Masterpieces of DWAC, PRAC and Ajax Creative Arts members show a tremendous range of community support for the first DWAC Fundraiser, April 21 st at the Doric Hall in Ajax. Many of the artists will be on hand for this elegant evening of socializing and fun. Internationally recognized artists who have shown their works at DWAC are adding to the splendid show of local talents. Brenda Clark, the illustrator for many of the Franklin the Turtle books, has contributed a mystery masterpiece and will be on hand April 21st. She is eager to meet the local artists whose works she has seen at the Durham West Arts Centre—especially those from Ajax Creative Arts now on exhibit at the Centre. Sculptor Ruth Abernethy, whose statue of Glen Gould sits outside CBS, statue of Al Waxman stands in Kensington and bronzes of Franklin the Turtle characters grace the children's area on Toronto Island, has contributed a mystery masterpiece as well. "We'll be highlighting the accomplishments of local artists whose works are in international collections", adds Angie Littlefield. "One of the mysteries DWAC will reveal April 21st, is the significant talents of those working in the west Durham arts scene."
