905.576.3000 72 Queen Street Rody Kenny Courtice: The Patterns of Her Time 10 November – 6 January Rody Kenny Courtice is among a generation of women artists, who were part of the Canadian Group of Painters, who were painting post Group of Seven The Canadian Group of Painters were known for its progressive approach to the arts and encouraging experimentation and research in every way. Courtice fit into that group as her canvases are often recognized for pattern and design, yet her individualism and humour can often be seen in her work. This retrospective includes works from The Robert McLaughlin Gallery’s permanent collection as well as a number of other institutions and private collections. Don Jean-Louis: Silverworks Don Jean-Louis has been an innovative figure in the world of Canadian contemporary art since the nineteen sixties. The exploration of new media and technologies is a hallmark of Jean-Louis’ practice, always within a directed and coherent vision. This exhibition concentrates on a brief unique period of Jean-Louis’ oeuvre that deals with paintings called Silver Works produced in 1985-86. The sources from which Jean-Louis’ was informed, as well as the artist’s work leading up to that period will be examined in this exhibition in a non-archaeological/art historical undertaking.
